  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together applesauce, maple syrup/honey, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  5. Fold in chopped nuts or raisins if desired.
  6. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 22–27 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Frosting:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon.
  2. Use a hand mixer on medium speed to whip the ingredients until smooth and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  3. Spread frosting over the cooled cake.
